Jam Cocktails: Spicy Tart Cherry Jam Margarita

Have you ever tossed out your jars of jam when there was still a little jam leftover? Stop doing that right now and save them to make jammie cocktails. It’s my favorite thing to do right now with all my jars of jams. My favorites for making jam cocktails are blueberry, strawberry or raspberry jams. I also love tart cherries and found an amazing tart cherry jam at TJ Maxx that I absolutely love. The jam isn’t overly sweet and perfect for my spicy tart cherry jam margarita. It’s so easy to make and once you made your first you’ll never toss out that jar without first washing it clean with something boozy!

Jam cocktails are a great way to add some excitement to your happy hour. There’s also no mess, slice or dicing, just pour and shake. Your cocktail will be as interesting as your jams so pick flavors your love. I of course had to spice it up and used Tanteo’s jalapeno tequila and a bit of Tajin.

Before diving into the recipe, it’s important to note a couple of alternatives to spicing up your cocktail. I used an already spiced tequila but you can make your own infused tequila I created here. The blog post also includes a great guide to learn more about popular chile peppers and how to use them. If you don’t have any chile peppers, you can try using hot sauce to spice your tequila. Just know that a vinegar heavy hot sauce will alter the flavor. Keep in mind that spicy cocktails can be intense, so it’s important to start with a small amount of spice and adjust as needed. Would you try this recipe? What almost empty jar of jam or jelly do you have in your frig right now?
